SSimports is actually an offshoot of Seam Seal International, Ltd. of Mansfield, England. Seam Seal was started in 1996 in the U.K. and concentrated on the manufacture and resell of seam-sealing tapes used for waterproofing fabrics in the outdoor retail market. Growth was quick and good, so in early 2001 the company expanded and opened operations in the U.S. to tackle the vast potential American outerwear market. It soon proved that the taping of the newly advanced, high-tech, waterproof fabrics on consumer outerwear required a great degree of knowledge and cooperation between Seam Seal and the fabric manufacturer, plus a good dose of persistence to make the things work in the manufacturing environment.

This persistence paid off as our customers liked what they saw and wanted more. They quickly realized we could help them out in other ways such as sourcing the fabric for them and proving in critical trim items or components key to their production. In response to this customer demand, in 2006 we established the company SSImports and began sourcing new products for our customer base. Initially, the focus was on non-woven fabrics, but this quickly shifted into woven and hybrid technical fabrics and a variety of complementary trim items like zippers and cotton.

Whatever the product, our methodology is the same:  we study it, we develop technical specifications for it, we find reliable suppliers who meet customer’s spec., we negotiate to get the target price, we oversee initial production and delivery and monitor the supply chain thereafter.

Our clients have learned that we do not endorse a product until we can stand fully behind it. That’s our personal guarantee— when we bring a new supplier or product to our clients, they know that it can be trusted. Frankly, it’s our name on the line and we take that very seriously.
